How they’re made
Each porcelain piece begins as a small amount of fine Australian mid-fire porcelain clay, hand-formed and pressed with a foliage texture of Australian native botanicals, before being fired. The white clay body and the subtle impressed texture give each piece a quiet, organic quality that works beautifully against the dark tone of the oxidised silver.
The sterling silver hoops are hand-formed from silver wire, then oxidised — a deliberate finishing process that transforms the surface from bright silver to a charcoal black or deep grey. It gives jewellery a beautiful contrast and is particularly effective when paired with light-coloured materials — like white porcelain — where the contrast between dark metal and pale ceramic creates a natural visual tension.
Both elements — the porcelain and the silver — are made entirely by hand in the studio, from forming and texturing the clay to shaping and finishing the metal.
What is oxidised silver?
Oxidised silver is sterling silver that has been deliberately treated to darken its surface. The process involves exposing the silver to a liver of sulphur and water mixture — which accelerates the natural tarnishing process and creates a controlled, darkened patina across the metal. The result is a charcoal-black or gunmetal tone that is very different from the bright shine of polished silver.
Caring for oxidised silver
To preserve the dark finish for longer, avoid using silver polishing cloths or abrasive cleaners on the hoops, as these will remove the patina. A gentle wipe with a soft dry cloth is all that’s needed to keep the earrings clean. Store in the cotton pouch provided when not wearing.

FAQ’s
Q: Will the dark colour on oxidised silver wear off? Over time and with regular wear, the oxidised patina can lighten on areas of contact and friction — this is natural and expected. Many people appreciate the way the finish evolves. To slow the process, store the earrings in the cotton pouch provided and avoid using silver polishing cloths, which will remove the patina more quickly.
Q: Is oxidised silver the same as blackened silver? Yes — oxidised silver and blackened silver refer to the same finishing technique. Both describe sterling silver that has been treated to produce a dark surface patina.
Q: Are these suitable as a gift? Yes — the combination of the delicate foliage-textured porcelain and the striking oxidised silver makes these a distinctive and memorable gift. They arrive in a handmade reusable cotton pouch complete with a care card.
